Happy January and Happy New Year!! The late fall and early winter are less busy times for our team and for missions. As with most things, we slowed down for the season. The new year brings new plans and new events. So, we have some updates for you.
This year, we are looking to go BIG! Okay, not too big, but significantly bigger than we have been. We are planning to buy in bulk coffee from both Mexico and Indonesia. Woot Woot!! That’s good news! So far, our purchases have been around 100 to 200 lbs per buy, which are wonderful but not super big purchases. Our biggest buy was less than 500 lbs from Mexico. But now we are trying to buy pallets of coffee from Mexico and Indo! This is between 1,600 and 2,200 lbs of coffee!
There are several steps that our team stateside and our connections internationally are working on. One of the biggest hurdles we are jumping over is shipping. We have been working on this for a while and have finally found people who ship from both countries.
Now, let’s break it down for more info from each country.
MEXICO. Eddie, our green coffee buyer, recently met an excellent coffee grower, some of his beans were nationally known and loved. We are planning to buy from him to fill about 70% of our pallet and about 30% from smaller farmers. We are excited for this purchase! But we won’t be getting these beans until later this year, possibly April or May tentatively. It is such a cool connection for Eddie and hopefully will be wonderful for you all, Gospel Coffee, and the spread of the Kingdom. We are excited for the nationally known growers beans. We think they are going to be pretty tasty! We have been in contact with Eddie and the Bible translators, the Ochoa’s, to work through the details of the purchase.
INDONESIA. Our contacts here are Ron and Ria. They have been working on making connections with local farmers and people that can coordinate shipping. They have found coffee in bulk on several islands in Indonesia including Java, Bali, and Flores. One really cool connection is that their neighbor is a small coffee farmer! We will be purchasing a small amount of coffee from their neighbor to continue to cultivate this relationship in hopes that they will be able to plant seeds and share the gospel. We have also located a person who coordinates shipping out of the island of Sumatra. Be in prayer for Ron and Ria! Kingdom workers in other countries often experience a lot of transition as team members change. The life of a worker like this is often slow without seeing regular rewards. But we are encouraged by them and their diligence to persevere and to continue in the faith and the advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ!!
We are excited for 2025!! We don’t have any big travel plans yet this year and it’s possible that we won’t go anywhere. Our goal is to fund foreign missions through coffee - and buying green coffee beans in bulk matches that purpose. We are thankful the Lord has provided and grown Gospel Coffee to be able to make such big purchases. It feels like an important step in the right direction. Thank you for all your prayers and support and coffee purchases. Let us be obedient to the life that He has called each one of us to, whether that is to be a Kingdom worker abroad, a support for the missionaries, a prayer partner, or a financial giver. God is using us all! Praise Him.
Shalom from the Gospel Coffee Crew
